There will be a public celebration at Hutchinson Field in Grant Park (901 S. Columbus), sponsored by the Obama Campaign. In fact, campaign organizers have already been selling tickets to reporters, according to an article by Lynn Sweet in the Chicago Sun-Times (October 21, 2008). Mayor Richard Daley said that the election night rally would cost the city 2 million dollars in a news release from UPI (October 24, 2008). Deanna Belland in the Chicago Tribune noted that Grant Park is "the place Chicagoans long have gathered to party, protest and pray" (October 27, 2008), hosting everything from Queen Elizabeth II's visit in 1959 to the anti-Vietnam War rioting of the Democratic National Convention in 1968 to the outdoor Mass by Pope John Paul II in 1979. It is indeed the most fitting place to celebrate a sweet Chicago victory.
